1959 Evinrude Starflite 50

The boat came with what I suspect is it's original power- a 1959 Evinrude Starflite 50. In 1959, This was a hot motor- It was the most powerful model that Evinrude built, and had great luxury features like electric start! Of course, it still has it's pull start handle, too- In case that new fangled electric starter failed. The motor was built in 1958 and 1959, and then in 1960 it became the Starflite II, putting out 75 HP.

1959 was also Evinrudes' 50th anniversiary, and the motors built that year had special 'golden jubilee' paint schemes and badging, all of which is intact. Of course, it's going to need a good paint job, but it should look as good as new when I'm done.

The mechanical condition of the motor is unknown. It looks to be in good shape, But I won't know until I start working on it if it's going to run or not. It is a good match to the boat, so with a little luck, it'll start right up and run strong. Since so many of these motors were built, some parts are still available for them. Hopefully, if there are any other parts needed, I'll be able to scavenge them from parts motors.

I've been able to find a lot of information and 'fun' things about the motor- Everything from original service and parts manuals to advertising and various other epherma related to it- All of which I am collecting.
