Miniature art is far more than small art- It is a very specialized genre, with it's own dedicated following of artists and collectors. All miniature art is small, But not all small art is miniature! Miniature art is created following certain rules and guidelines, which separate them from merely being small works. While the 'guidelines' vary a bit from group to group, and from nation to nation, most miniaturists work under somewhat similar rules. Please see the Information link to the left for more information.

I saw my first miniature art at the Miniature Art Society of Florida's international show. I kind of stumbled in on it- I didn't know what miniature art was at the time, and like many people, I just assumed that it was small art. Seeing a show like this changed my impression of the art form, and changed the course of my artwork forever.

For the most part, I work even smaller than I am 'allowed' to- I have decided to do the vast majority of my miniature work in less than 6 square inches, hence the name of this page. I find that this size allows me enough space to get the kind of detail that I want to get in, but also remains small enough that it still holds a certain fascination. I also do some even smaller work- drawings that I call Micros- which are in the one square inch or smaller range. Of course, no matter what size I work in, I maintain the high standards required of miniature art, keeping the level of detail and scale appropriate to the piece.

In the best interests of avoiding confusion to newcomers & practicioners of miniature art in the contemporary art world, a group of artists got together and formed a group, the Association of Miniature Artists. I was one of the original members of the group, and since it's foundation the roster has grown to include many of the top artists in the miniature field worldwide. The goal of the AMA was to create something of a standard to define Miniature art in the contemporary world. This might seem unimportant, however there is a lot of confusion out there as to exactly what miniature art is, and exactly how it is defined. The historical definitions and the modern definitions really are not the same, and the term is also often used very loosel y to describe works that really should be classified as small art, not true miniatures.
